comm prob 13 (ethics decoded)

Comments for Individual:
Yes our ethics can help us add value to our interactions with others. A sensible and reasonable RJ.

Reflection Journal:
Describe your personal set of ethics. How does it affect the way you communicate?

My personal set of ethics is that i should think about the consequences before i do things, and don't do things that will hurt the people i loved. i also believe in being fair and that if i've said something wrong, or offensive, i would not apologize and take back what i've said. firstly, it's very important to think about consequences cos i believe that what goes around comes around. in communication, i try to think about what i'm saying before i say it. secondly, it's essential that we are fair in everything and don't discriminate. after all, everyone deserves to be treated equally since we're all the same. thirdly, i believe that it's dumb to take back what i've said, since i've already said it. perhaps it affects my communication in the sense that i may seem to be very open and blunt, and don't-care-ish about what i say.

comm prob 14 (whose right? who's right?)

Comments for Individual:
A well reasoned argument. You made some sharp observations about the statement and its implications. Good job.

Reflection Journal:
“Copying is the best form of flattery”. Comment.

Copying is not the best form of flattery as copying shows that you do not respect the other person. Respect comes in many forms. There’s respect for age, for seniority, for experience, for knowledge, for talent, as well as respect for the effort others put in for their work. The other person had probably put a lot of intellectual effort, thought and hours of hard work before he or she had managed to come up with what they did. By copying what he or she has done, we are showing that we are too lazy to think, and that we’re freeloading. We are simply taking advantage of others. On the other hand, flattery is excessive or insincere praise, which means that people do not actually mean it from their heart when they ‘praise’ others. Arguing from this context, copying is the best form of flattery as copying would show just how ‘sincere’ their praise is. Copying shows that one is too lazy to think and try rephrase others’ works in their own words as they are simply too. In other words, copying in this context is the best form of flattery as it shows how much one cares about that person’s work – in the most sarcastic way ever, by pretending to everyone that it’s worth copying when it’s actually not.

comm prob 15 (keep it quiet, keep it private)

Reflection Journal:
To what extent would you tolerate an intrusion of your privacy and why?

i would tolerate an intrusion of my privacy to a certain extent. using my parents and my home as an example, i wouldn't mind if my mother came into my room and tidied things up for me. the only potential problem i might have with that is that i won't be able to find my things, especially if i'm in a rush. however, since my room is in a constant state of disarray where sometimes even i can't find my own things, it doesn't change much. however, i draw the line at her snooping through my personal stuff like my hp messages or diary or work. parents might think that it's their automatic right as a parent to know what their kids are up to, but there should be a certain level of trust and respect involved too. trust, that as a parent you've brought up your child correctly and that he/she would do what is right, and tell you what is going on in their lives without you having to pry. respect, that everyone has a need for their own privacy, since no one likes to be laid bare for everyone to see. sometimes people hide things from others for various reasons, like they don't want to be thought to be immature by having certain thoughts that they can't help having since it's only human to have them. i believe in all this, which is why i'd tolerate an intrusion of my privacy to that aforementioned extent.

daily grade : a?

wahahhas. that's the one i just handed in. the one that i rushed home (against my better judgement) within 1/2 an hour to type and submit in 7 minutes. not bad, for something THAT last minute eh? hahaha. anyway, i think if it's based on rj alone, i'll get an a. however, it all now depends on my team presentation. oh great. btw, doesn't this just prove how WELL i crap? *bleahs*
'please don't stop the music 3:20 pm

now playing :
song of my life.
Past the point of no return -
no backward glances:
the games we've played
till now are at an end.
Past all thought of "if"
or "when" -
no use resisting:
abandon thought,
and let the dream descend . . .
